Straddling a prime spot on the Florida coastline north of Miami, Boca Raton is a great place for those seeking sun and fun. Flush with revenue from tourism and a substantial tax base, Boca Raton spends large amounts of money making the city pleasant and efficient. The best examples of this are the impressive and unique system of beachside parks that the city maintains. The extensive and smooth beaches surrounding Boca Raton make it impossible for visitors to go wrong. One good starting point is the Spanish River Park, a large well-maintained jewel right next to the ocean. This is a great spot for a picnic, after which you can head for the sun or the water depending on your tastes.
A virtual Mecca of the golfing world, there are dozens of courses either in Boca Raton proper, or close to it. The remarkable consistency of the weather allows for comfortable play year-round. Furthermore, the sheer number of courses means that not only will you likely get a good tee time, but that you will never feel bored or unchallenged.
The 800 pound gorilla of Boca Raton shopping is the Town Center Mall, home to six giant department stores and several hundred specialty shops. If the mass market nature of the place is not for you, nearby bohemian Delray Beach is a better choice for arts, antiques, and the unusual. For a nice dining experience you could try any number of the fine restaurants in Boca Raton, though if you're feeling adventurous, a beachside seafood shack serving oysters and beers makes for a better story for the folks back home. |
