More accessible and friendlier than Palm Beach, West Palm Beach is a great place to visit and linger for a while. A vibrant local cultural scene, anchored by Florida's best museum, sets it apart from other nearby destinations. Fine offerings of sports and entertainment, as well as several great beaches, make it a favorite destination for many.
The standout here is Florida's largest museum, the Norton Museum of Art. In addition to the works by modern European masters and impressionists that you would expect from an institution of its standing, it has a fascinating collection of Chinese jade carvings. Another good option is the South Florida Science Museum, with its acclaimed Buzz Aldrin Planetarium.
Beaches and Entertainment
The Mid Town Beach and Phipps Ocean Park Beach are both nice spots to cool off with a swim or simply lounge and sunbathe. If you are up for some sports and enjoy horses, catch a polo match at Palm Beach Polo. For nightlife, whether it be a movie, a bar, or the theatre, head to either CityPlace or Clematis by Night. Both are linked to each other by a convenient trolley.
Unlike Palm Beach, West Palm Beach has plenty of good value options for hotels and motels. The best deals are found towards the southern end of town, but the cozy bed and breakfasts in the Old Northwood Historic District aren't bad deals either. An eclectic variety of restaurants make dining out here fun, for some Latin flavor try the Samba Room.
