Guide To Boston
Whether it's classical music or club hopping that gets your blood moving, it won't be difficult to entertain yourself in Boston. With its diverse neighborhoods, each contributing their own flavor and identity to the larger patchwork, a broad spectrum of music and entertainment choices are available on any given night. Whether it's a friendly neighborhood bar or world-class entertainment you're seeking, you're sure to find many surprising options in this town with many faces.

Many are familiar with Boston's famous downtown theater district, with its history and spectacular Broadway performances. Located just south of Downtown Crossing, it's just a stone's throw from the Nine Zero, or the Millenium Boston Hotel. With great restaurants, bars, and dance clubs located throughout the neighborhood, it's a great place to take a date, or just go hang out with friends. Some notable venues in this district are the Cheers Bull & Finch Pub (made famous by the television show, check out their award winning burgers), Brew Moon (an award winning brewpub with a reputation for their friendly bartenders), the Roxy (featuring swing dancing on Fridays), and the Big Easy. But don't forget other theater options, such as the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, the Boston University Shakespeare Society, and the award winning ACME Theater Company (affectionately known as the “home of the misfits”) in nearby Maynard.

One might not at first think of the historical Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market when it comes to nightlife and entertainment, but think again. This neighborhood is loaded with great pubs and clubs as well. Featuring great Irish bars, the Ames Plow Tavern (located in the basement of the Quincy Market), as well as live and DJ music clubs, this neighborhood is lively, especially on the weekends. Staying in the nearby Royal Sonesta or Hotel @ MIT makes it even easier to explore this distinctive neighborhood close up. Another treasure is nearby Café Fleuri, which features a chocolate bar that runs the length of the restaurant, offering chocolate delicacies you have only dared to imagine.

Of course Back Bay also features it's own distinctive nightlife, with it's slightly more upscale bars and clubs, but the discerning visitor will still find much within their means. 29 Newbury, for example, is an eclectic bar considered inexpensive for the neighborhood. The Ritz-Carlton, located at Newbury and Arlington is known is home of the Ritz Fizz, and is known for its fabulous desserts as well as award winning martinis. Staying at Club Quarters or the Colonnade will put this upscale right outside your door, but if it's more than your budget can manage hop over to neighboring Fenway.

If you don't feel like taking in a ballgame at their historical ballpark, widely regarded as the premier example of the remaining first generation ballparks in the country, no worries. Highlights in this area include Jillians (a huge entertainment complex boasting everything from a bar to pool, ping pong, and a mock casino), the Cask ‘N Flagon, Jake Ivory's Piano Bar (featuring dueling pianos), and the upscale Spanish hot spot Sophias (best Sangria in Boston). Stay at the Howard Johnson Fenway or the Best Western Fenway, for convenient easy access to this neighborhood.

Whatever you do, don't forget Cambridge. Home to over 250,000 students, this neighborhood boasts tons of pubs, music, cinema, comedy, cafes, and general all around goings-on, and, because it caters to students, you'll find it affordable as well. There are usually student concerts or theatrical productions going on around the neighborhood, which is a great opportunity to hear talented individuals perform at exceptionally affordable prices. Craigie Street Bistro does a great dinner theater, and Upstairs at the Square and the Rialto regularly host thematic dinners. Stay at the Days Hotel Boston or the Hyatt Regency Cambridge, and then wander around the neighborhood to bask in the casual atmosphere at numerous sunken pubs and soak in the youthful and energetic vibe.

As you're sure to discover during your visit to Boston, this is really just the tip of the iceberg, and the tastes, interests, and areas for you to explore will leave you wanting to come back for more.
