Once notorious for pollution so severe that the Cuyahoga River caught fire, present day Cleveland is an amazing story of renewal. Anchored by a revitalized waterfront and popularized with the opening of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland is a great travel destination once again. The old snipes of a city in permanent decline ring decidedly hollow.
The opening of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the 1990s cast an international spotlight on Cleveland. As the city's top attraction, it is no mere collection of the personal trinkets of rock stars. A host of multimedia exhibits engage the visitor in the societal and historical context of rock and roll.
Not far to the east of the downtown area, a variety of attractions are located in the vicinity of Case Western Reserve University. A symbol of the city's wealth and sophistication, the Cleveland Museum of Art is excellent. Also worth a visit is the Crawford Auto and Aviation Museum and the immaculate and beautiful Cleveland Botanical Gardens.
Home to professional baseball, basketball, and football teams, Cleveland is a sport lover's paradise. You can see the Indians play ball at Jacobs Field, watch the Cavaliers shoot hoops against other elite NBA teams at Gund Arena, and catch the Browns tear up the gridiron in the Cleveland Browns Stadium. If sports aren't necessarily your thing, try catching some live music. The Bop Stop, a jazz venue, is just one of several possibilities. |
