Sports fans can get their fix in every major sport without leaving the Metroplex. The Texas Motor Speedway holds over 150,000 fans in far north Fort Worth along the historic Chisholm Trail and The Doral Tesoro Hotel is so close you can smell the tires burning from your hotel room.

Bet on a favorite horse or relax with good food while watching the fast horses compete at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie . The Family Fun Park , the adjacent outdoor area, is a venue for outdoor events, family-oriented attractions, festivals, and concerts.

Not far from the horse racing action is the Midway of the Metroplex in Arlington where much of the family fun occurs. Six Flags Over Texas amusement park is next to the Texas Rangers' home field at The Ballpark in Arlington while Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Water Park is across the way and the Place of Wax Museum and Ripley's Believe It or Not! Are just down the road. Amerisuites Grand Prairie, Country Inn, Wyndham Arlington, and Hilton Arlington are in the area.

The Dallas Cowboys games and the Byron Nelson golf tournament are in Irving . The Sterling Hotel is a good spot to stay when going to Irving and to the Market Center . The Colonial golf tournament is held in Fort Worth . Dallas Mavericks basketball, Dallas Stars hockey, and Dallas Desperados indoor football teams play in the American Airlines Center . The Dallas Sidekicks indoor soccer team plays at Reunion Arena, not far from the American Airlines Center .

The Dallas Burn outdoor soccer team plays at the Cotton Bowl, also the home of the annual Texas - OU ( Oklahoma University ) Red River Shootout football clash during the State Fair. Right in the middle of a hustling and bustling, early fall, the State Fair of Texas is a three-week event taking place in September - October when the hot temperatures have usually disappeared.

The Dallas Aquarium, the Dallas Museum of Natural History, the Women's Museum, the African American Museum, the Science Place, IMAX theater and planetarium, and other museums live in Fair Park for easy access between the fair and museums. It's a great place to park the family and spend the day or a few days.

Dallas is the home to the JFK Memorial from a period of the city's darkest day in history, November 22, 1963 , the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dealey Plaza. The Sixth Floor Museum chronicles the assassination and the President's legacy. A block from Dealey Plaza is the Kennedy Memorial Plaza, a quiet area appropriate for reflection and remembrance.

The city of Dallas set aside 60 acres of on the north side of downtown for its Arts District comprises of the Dallas Museum of Art, the sparkling new Nasher Sculpture Center, the Crow Collection of Asian Art, the Meyerson Symphony Center, the Annette Strauss Artist Square, and a few more in the planning stages. Crescent Court, Fairmont, Hyatt Regency Dallas Reunion, and Hotel Lawrence are well-located for those who wish to visit the Arts District, Fair Park, and Dealey Plaza .

Fort Worth 's Cultural District has a cluster of museums, galleries, theaters, shops, and restaurants with enough places to keep anyone busy for more than a few days. Its newest building is the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth , across from it is the Kimbell Art Museum , and a jump away is the Amon G. Carter Museum. Between the three, a person receives a thorough art education and experience.

Also in the District is the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History that has an Omni Theater and a stellar planetarium. The exhibits encourage children to engage in activities including Kidspace, an interactive exhibit for those who are six-years-old and under.

Casa MaƱana has a children's playhouse series that runs in the first half of the year in the winter and the Silver Dome series, a mix of new works, comedies, dramas, musicals, and plays. The theater sponsors shows at the Bass Performance Hall and these usually need reservations.

As the city known as "Where the West begins," and Cowtown, there is no shortage of cowboy heritage. The Will Rogers Memorial Center hosts many large shows. Every year in January for three weeks, however, it becomes the Fort Worth Southwestern Exposition Livestock Show and Rodeo (also known as the Stock Show). Kitty-corner from the Center is the Will Rogers Equestrian Center where horses participate in a variety of equestrian events.

The newest kid on the block is the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame dedicated to honoring and documenting women who are the epitome of the pioneer spirit of the American West.

Also near the Cultural District is the Fort Worth Zoo, one of the top zoos in the US . With 109 acres of garden, the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens is Texas ' oldest botanic garden. Return to pilgrim days by visiting the Log Cabin Village.

The Dallas Arboretum is by the short of White Rock Lake , a large tropical oasis and a breathtaking place to take a respite from the city's hustle and bustle. Hotel choices are Radisson Central , Bradford at Lincoln Park , and Doubletree Campbell Center .

JR and the Ewing family from Dallas , the TV show, haven't been on the small screen in over a decade. Yet their Southfork home on the outskirts of Dallas , about 35 minutes, continues to receive visitors who tour the famous ranch, shop, and eat at Miss Ellie's Deli.

Dallas is the eighth-largest US city and its close proximity to Fort Worth, about 30 miles, ensures its visitors with a variety of interests have endless options and memorable experiences.
