Guide To Dallas
Looking for restaurant chains or originals is a piece of cake, so to speak for residents and visitors as the Texas Restaurant Association reports Dallas has more than 7,000 restaurants! Not impressed? How about this? Dallas has more restaurants per person than New York City !

The barbecue is tasty at just about every place in town and there's plenty o' home cookin', southern eatin', and chili to savor. You can go cosmopolitan with new twists on old favorites including Italian, Southwestern, pan-Asian, and Tex-mex.

Much of the dining action and five-star restaurants are found in downtown Dallas . Some places like the clubby Bob's Steak and Chop House have opened a second or third location in surrounding areas. When you want to treat someone or simply have an unforgettable dining experience, downtown's central business district has a buffet of choices.

The Hyatt Regency Dallas Reunion houses fine dining at 50 stories above the city in one of the most recognizable city structures, Reunion Tower . In Antares, dine on the finest meal especially in the evening when you can take in the glittering lights of the city while gently revolving around. Another hotel favorite is the Centennial Café and you can relax with a favorite drink and hors d'oeuvres in The Dome Lounge.

Take a trip to old France without leaving Dallas from The Adolphus ' The French Room. Admire the 18-foot ceilings with murals coming alive from the glow of the hand-blown crystal chandeliers and gilt sconces. ( The Magnolia and The Melrose hotels are nearby.) Also close by is Jeroboam serving new American cuisine in the 1913 Kirby Building . For those hankering for Mediterranean food, Izmir Mediterranean Tapas is a crowd-pleaser with prices that won't eat up your travel money.

When in Texas , you might have a cravin' for ol' Southern comfort food and Tiki's takes care of you with lots of soul. Expect fried chicken, catfish, and sweet potato biscuits. It may sound unusual, but the Harlem tradition of chicken and waffles is perfection. Be sure to order them as soon as you sit down since they take time to cook.

Near the Stoneleigh is The Old Warsaw, a French continental restaurant with a Casablanca or other 1940s European movie feel. This elegant place comes complete with crystal chandeliers, mirrors, floral walls, and musicians.

We haven't even left downtown and it wouldn't be right to neglect the next few. The Chaparral Club is on the 38 th floor of the Adam's Mark Hotel and provides the breathtaking view expected of a restaurant located sky-high. Its style is art deco and its taste is American.

Thinking of pyramids, it may conjure thoughts of Middle Eastern cuisine. Surprisingly, The Pyramid at Fairmont serves American food and it's named because a pyramid-shaped fixture hid a flaw with the architecture.

A lovely way to start or end a visit to The Dallas Museum of Art is having lunch at the chic and sleek Seventeen Seventeen.

Across the street from the Dallas Market Center , the world's largest wholesale merchandise mart, is the Wyndham Anatole and its five-star restaurant, Nana. The view from Nana is spectacular and the menu equally impressive. Diners admire the lustrous nude painting of Nana for whom the restaurant is named. The hotel also offers casual dining options in The Terrace, La Esquina Restaurant and Tequila Bar, and Rathskellar Sports Bar.

In uptown Dallas , the Crescent Court Hotel hosts Beau Nash, a glassed-in restaurant overlooking the hotel's garden. The Landmark lives inside the Melrose Hotel and is open for all meals including Sunday brunch.

Other uptown crowd-pleasers are Abacus, Al Biernat's, and Sambuca each with its own charm. When hearing " The Mansion on Turtle Creek ," a person could be referring to the luxurious hotel or one of the finest restaurants in the world. The award-winning Mansion Restaurant's serves modern Southwestern cuisine under Chef Dean Fearing's guidance.

North Dallas is loaded with steak houses. What would Texas be without them? Chamberlain's and Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steak House vie for favorite steak restaurant. Still further north Dallas almost into Plano territory is the reliable casual French spot, Lavendou.

Going west to Fort Worth "where the west begins," the best place to be is in Sundance Square , a revived area of downtown with lots to do and an abundance of places to take a load off and fill up on tasty food. The Radisson Plaza Hotel is in the middle of the action beginning with its own Cactus Bar and Grill, a Tex-mex casual spot.

The Bass Hall is a breathtaking performance hall and going to a sophisticated restaurant before or after a performance adds a perfect touch to the evening. Grape Escape is a top-notch choice and its wine list is the raison d'ĂȘtre.

Despite a run in with a tornado, Reata rebuilt and has recaptured its original atmosphere. Its cuisine is described as Western chic or, for those who can't fathom what that means, a blend of Southwestern and Tex-mex. New American restaurant, Angeluna, lives up to the name with angel sculptures decorating the hall along with hundreds of pieces of works of art from local artists.

Travel to France , Greece , Italy , and Spain in Cowtown through a tasteful journey at Kalamatas Mediterranean Cuisine. Before heading to the museums, start the day with goodies from Houston St. Bakery.

The Hyatt Regency DFW is right on DFW International Airport property. The opportunity to find a classy restaurant to start off or end the trip with a bang may be limited, but it's no problem since the hotel has Mister G's.

Finally, check out Grapefest, a wonderful wine festival in Grapevine, a suburb of Dallas and home of DFW International Airport . (The Comfort Inn DFW West Airport Hotel is convenient for Grapevine, Hurst-Euless-Bedford, and other mid-city visits.)

These recommendations barely cover Dallas ' dining scene. Residents are friendly and responsive to questions, so feel free to ask around for recommendations and you'll be delighted.
