Guide To Dallas
Dallas offers more live music every night than Nashville . Rock / pop is the most popular, but the city has clubs playing blues, hip-hop, country and western, and jazz music. In other words, almost anything you want in music is available.

For clubs, bars, and restaurants or to see what acts are playing, check The Dallas Morning News' Friday newspaper, which has an insert called The Guide. It lists restaurants, movies, clubs, arts, and all the Metroplex happenings. It is also on view in the corresponding Web site

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra plays in the elegant Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center designed by architect I.M. Pei, which houses the last hand-made Fisk organ that Mr. Fisk toiled with prior to his death. The Meyerson is located in the arts district near Hotel Zaza , Crescent Court , and The Fairmont .

The glamorous Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth 's Sundance Square dazzles its audiences with its architectural beauty and superior acoustics. Every type of performance appears on the stage ensuring those who embrace symphony, musical theater, comedy, ballet, opera, or other artistry leave the Hall having enjoyed an experience they'll not soon forget.

DFW is a regular stop for touring theater companies, so there's almost always a big production happening. The Music Hall at Fair Park , Dallas Theater Center , Eisemann Center , and Fort Worth 's Casa Mañana and Bass Hall host such productions. Similar to an “Off-Broadway” experience, many of the suburban theaters produce excellent shows of known and unknown works.

Popular music acts appear at several locations in the Dallas area including Smirnoff Music Center near The Magnolia and Hampton Inn West End , where most of the big ticket pop stars tour in the summer. Grand Prairie 's Nokia Live is next to Lone Star Park racetrack. Though American Airlines Center is home to the Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Stars, and Dallas Desperados; it also converts to ian arena providing a stopover for big name music stars. American Airlines Center is right on the DART rail (public transportation) and it has parking available.

The Gypsy Tea Room's name hardly sounds like anything more than a classy restaurant. It's actually two rooms, a ballroom for dancing to country and rock music, not the Tango, and a performance spot for listening to such music.

Dallas ' Angelika Film Center and Café is home to the USA Film Festival where you can view a week's worth of screenings of new and foreign films. The Festival also pays tribute to people in the film industry each year in April. The Center runs independent and specialty films year around. Its newest location is open in Plano, a Dallas suburb.

Independents, imports, or “subtitled cinema” lovers will be thrilled with the three-screen Inwood and five-screen Magnolia Theaters. Both have ample parking and spirits for enjoying while watching the movie and discussing them after.

After a hiatus, the legendary Honky Tonk, Gilley's has returned to Dallas with a more urban touch. Not only does country music fill the air in its large showroom and a mechanical bull awaits for courageous riders, but also it's the official site for the annual Dallas Golden Gloves and Dallas Jazz Festival. Gilley's has expanded its taste, so check the venue to see what's playing as it might be up your alley.

Fort Worth has its own answer to Gilley's in the renowned Billy Bob's Texas presenting almost seven acres of space, over 32 bar stations, live pro bull riding, a dance floor, and music acts.

Fill your heart with laughter at Backdoor Comedy or Addison Improv Comedy Club. Singles in their 30s and 40s who desire to go out and about to enjoy the company of others in upscale and semi-upscale nightspots have a wealth of places from which to choose. These are not hang outs for the college crowd, but are frequented by young professionals. Such places are easy to reach and most offer convenient parking, something not common in other major cities. Most of these clubs and bars close at 2:00 AM , but a few remain open even later.

The areas with plenty of nighttime action are Deep Ellum, Greenville Avenue , McKinney Ave, North Dallas , Travis Walk, and the West End . Deep Ellum is a warehouse district with trendy stores, galleries, nightclubs, bars, festivals, and restaurants.

Sundance Square is the setting for the nighttime scene in Downtown Fort Worth. At night, it resembles a mini-Vegas with the bright lights from the surrounding buildings and movie theaters.

The restaurants, clubs, Bass Hall, and Hyena's Comedy Club are walking distance of one another. The Clarion and Radisson Plaza are in the middle of the entertainment. Newly restored buildings have replaced its colorful past of tawdry houses and gambling joints.

The Dallas Morning News ' Guidelive.com is a top resource for the latest goings-on as well as for the inside notes on what to wear and what the club's clientele is like. With an abundance of choices, finding a good time is effortless.
