When traveling on airplanes, it used to be that your in-flight entertainment was restricted to whatever movie that was played for all to see. However with advancements in technology, that is no longer the case. In recent years, In-flight entertainment has taken great strides and is now just starting to take off.

In-Flight TVIn-flight television has become commonplace on most airline for lengthy flights. On these longer flights, personal televisions are available for each passenger, with the passenger having complete control of what programming they will watch.

What varies greatly from airline to airline is the options available on these personal televisions. Oftentimes the televisions are imbedded in the back of each seat, so every traveler can view a screen right in front of them, while other times the screens flip down from overhead.

Some airlines offer live television via satellite, while other airlines only offer on demand programming. Another big bonus for passengers, particularly for those who are traveling with children, is these personal televisions are sometimes hooked so that passengers can play video games on their flight.

Let’s take a look at what some of the major airlines have to offer in terms of in-flight television.

American Airlines features CBS programming on their flights. The programming includes 60 minutes, 48 hours, CBS New Sunday Morning and other news related shows. Also available are CBS sports clips, entertainment updates and full shows of CBS sitcoms and comedy acts.

United Airlines provides a similar package, except they show NBC programming. Plus passengers can also watch the Disney channel, VH1 and BBC.

If you are looking for the best television options available on flights, consider flying with Virgin Atlantic. Their award winning in-flight entertainment includes nearly a dozen movie channels, eight television channels, over a dozen audio options and over 30 video games to select from.

Another airline that offers top of the line television options is JetBlue Airlines. While on a JetBlue Airlines flight, you have the ability to watch DirecTV just like you would at your own home. The shows are live and you have 36 channels to pick from. For an extra charge, you can also have access to premium channels.

Personalized television options aren’t just restricted to United States based airlines. In fact, Qantas Airlines has one of the most impressive entertainment packages in the industry. On their flights, they offer over 50 movies, 200 television options, 20 radio programs and nearly a dozen video games.

Other worldwide airlines that offer extensive television options include Lufthansa, Japan Airlines, China Airlines, Israeli Airlines and Asiana.
