Unique California Hotel: The Madonna Inn

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

The Madonna Inn located in San Luis Obispo, California is not anything like what you would expect from the name. It’s not an ornate Victorian-style Inn and it’s got no relationship to either the famous singer or the religious icon. But there are so many different types of rooms in the Madonna Inn that you might be able to find one that conjures up images of either. You see, this unique hotel has got 109 rooms and each one of them is completely personalized and unique from all of the others.

The main draw for many of the rooms is the fact that they’ve got a rock waterfall shower. Couples seeking a romantic vacation and singles seeking some indulgence stay in these rooms just to spend time in the shower. But the rocks don’t end there; there are rock fireplaces in some of the rooms and other rooms are actually basically cave-like rock rooms. Yes, the rocks are natural, many of them coming directly from the area surrounding the Inn.

That area is San Luis Obispo, a coastal city located about halfway between the major cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco. People often go here to visit The Hearst Castle, a magnificent architectural mansion designed after Spanish palaces. But you can also enjoy the beautiful nature of the area (including the ocean and several lakes), a plethora of outdoor activities, days filled with wine tastings and nights out at nice restaurants in the area. Then you can return back to the Madonna Inn to spend the night in completely unique room.
