Want to visit the most haunted building in all of England? Then the Tower of London is the place to put at the top of your list. With a history involving any number of infamous prisoners, a torture chamber and numerous executions, it’s not difficult to imagine there are a few unhappy ghosts wandering around.
Try to spend at least half a day at the Tower. Start off with an hour-long Yeoman Warder tour, which will probably include some grizzly tales of times past. You can also see live re-enactments of historical events on the South Lawn of the complex. Check the Bloody Tower to learn the story of the Little Princes; see various instruments of torture instruments in the Lower Wakefield Tower; and read the graffiti left by prisoners in the Beauchamp Tower.

The best places to check for ghosts are the Martin Tower and the Queen’s House. In the Martin Tower, there are said to be ghosts of two bears that lived in the Tower of London in the 1200s and 1800s. The ghost of Arbella Stuart is thought to haunt the Queen’s House. Arbella married in 1610 against the wishes of King James I and was then held in the tower until she died in 1615. Employees of the Tower of London hold her ghost responsible for some strange occurrences.
The Tower of London opens daily between 9am and 6pm in summer, closing at 5pm in winter. Adults pay £16, children £9.50 and there are discounts for families and students.
