Portes du Soleil

Portes du Soleil, literally “gateway to the sun,” is a large section of the Alps that spans between Mont Blanc in France and Lake Geneva, Switzerland. The 400-square mile region encompasses 12 resorts–8 in France and 4 in Switzerland–over 350 miles of ski runs and more than 230 lifts.

Portes du Soleil Resorts
The resorts of Portes du Soleil are open from December 15, 2007 to April 20, 2008. Among the 12 ski resorts in the Portes du Soleil region, the most popular are:

  • Chatel - Located at the French/Swiss border, the charming alpine village of Chatel offers 47 slopes and more than 80 miles of ski trails. In addition to skiing, the resort offers ice skating and snowshoe trails.
  • Morzine - In addition to its many ski trails, this Alpine resort offers snowboarding, ice-skating, tobogganing, and cross-country skiing. Morzine is also the final alpine stop on the summer Tour de France cycling race.

Getting to Portes du Soleil
The ski resorts of Portes du Soleil are accessed via plane to Geneva or Grenoble airports and via rail to stations along the lower Alps.
