The worlds oldest Golf Championship the British Open gets into full swing in at the Carnousite Golf Club in the United Kingdom this weekend.
Golf has been played at Carnousite as early as 1527, however it wasn’t until 1842 that the Carnousite and Taymouth Golf Club was officially formed. The land eventually became public property and both the championship and Burnside course are public courses open to anyone play on.
Previous winners include golf legends such as Tiger Woods, Ben Curtis, Ernie Els, Greg Norman, Lee Trevino, Jack Nicholaus, Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Bobby Locke and many more. In the United States this tournament is referred to as the British Open so it’s not confused with the US Open part of the tennis grand slam series which is played in August. The winner of the tournament receives the Claret Jug.
The schedule for the British Golf Open is as follows:
Sunday July 15th-Wednesday July 18th - practice days
Thursday July 19th through Sunday July 21st - competition days
Ticket prices for the competition days are 50£ or approximately $100.
