Santa Monica is a beach city in the Los Angeles area which makes it an ideal spot for a vacation at almost any time of year. The weather in this region stays beautiful enough to enjoy the waves well into the year. Although technically Santa Monica is a city of its own, it is generally considered a part of Los Angeles. Nevertheless, it does have all that you could ask for from a small city – beach activities, nightlife, restaurants, accommodations and shopping.

Shopping is a favorite activity in Santa Monica due to the Third Street Promenade which is a strip of popular stores where visitors can pick up clothes, music and books. This is also a popular area for street performers and musicians to show off their talents for tourists. Visitors who are interested in doing some less mainstream shopping in Santa Monica can head a few blocks over to 5th or 6th Streets and find the thrift stores and other less name-brand shopping in the area.

Shopping’s a reason to enjoy Santa Monica but the beach and boardwalk are why it is truly a destination of its own. Street performers, artists and the colorful characters of the beach make this area a terrific place to spend the day. The water is warm, there are restaurants and bars lining the beach and there is plenty of great people-watching. Head to the Santa Monica Pier to enjoy carnival games, rides, arcades and fishing. There are often free concerts hosted in this area to enjoy as well. Head up the boardwalk towards Venice Beach to enjoy more street art and to check out muscle beach where bodybuilders flex their muscles for photographs.
If you’re looking for a summer vacation destination when it’s not quite summer anymore, you’re looking for Santa Monica. And, of course, you’ll be in close proximity to all of the other great attractions and sights in Los Angeles so you’re sure to stay busy.
