Madison, the capital of Wisconsin, is a Midwestern vacation destination which often gets overlooked. With low-cost accommodations, interesting attractions and a number of annual events worth checking out, it’s a city that you might want to put on your travel radar. Although you might think that you’ve never thought about Madison before, it’s a city that’s home to a number of brand names that you already know. Oscar Mayer, Famous Footwear, and Pizza Pit all got started in Madison. You can take a trip to some of these spots to get some inside information on the industry and to see the kind of attractions that offer low-cost entertainment.

But if you’re looking for more traditional entertainment, you might want to think about enjoying one of the many festivals that Madison is becoming increasingly well-known for. The city is particularly known for its love of music and there are a number of festivals associated with that. You can head there on Bastille Day to hear French music at the Fete de Marquette festival. Or you can check out some of the other festivals such as the Waterfront Festival, the Orton Park Festival, the Greek Festival or the Reverence Electronic Dance Festival. If you want to see it, it’s probably in Madison.

For attractions that are less fleeting, you’ll want to check out some of the places that regularly make the lists of what to see in Madison. Natural plant and animal life can be viewed at the Henry Vilas Zoo, the University of Wisconsin Arboretum and the Botanical Gardens.
