The Fourth of July bring out the nostalgic traveler in all of us, if you’re looking for a place to connect with your American Revolutionary Founding Fathers, Colonial Williamsburg might be just what you’re looking for. A stone’s throw away from Virginia Beach Colonial Williamsburg allows you to step back in time and see what life was like during the late 1700’s. Visit a bustling 18th century city where residents live and show the hardships of day to day life, walk down the streets chances are you might bump into someone famous like Benjamin Franklin or Patrick Henry. Local artisans and tradesmen are on hand to show the tools they used in leather working, printing, and blacksmith shops. There are programs scheduled throughout the day, some designed specially for children, making this a family friendly vacation destination.
There are also several new additions, restaurants which serve period era food, in richly detailed and authentically styled dining rooms. You may want to inquire about reservations, as they do tend to fill up fairly quickly. Another new addition is the tavern ghost walks. A local guide walks you through the area pointing out “haunted houses” and telling ghost stories and legends from the area. Space for this tour is very limited, so be sure to make reservation if you are interested.
