Kennebunkport! The name in itself is a tongue twister, try arranging travel to this quaint little port town, which is a few miles south of Maine’s largest and probably it’s most popular city Portland.

Discovering Kennebunkport, which pales in comparison to the size of Portland, calls to mind a scene straight out of the Victorian age. The beautiful still waters with tiny ferries entering in and out of the skyline.

Many aren’t familiar with Kennebunkport, but I ended up there haphazardly on a writer’s conference last summer. Not only was it an artists haven – the antique bookshops and art galleries are plentiful – but the coastal setting is actually the summer home local of former American President, George Bush.

During my time in Kennebunkport, although I didn’t enjoy the regal accommodations of a U.S. president’s status, I did enjoy the quaint and very gracious hospitality of a cute little bed and breakfast right on the harbor. The vistas provided were something out of a movie. Imagine relaxing with a book in an Adirondack chair while witnessing the glorious reds, pinks and oranges of a pure sunset.

I also took in a series of antique shops and the local flea market on a Saturday stroll through the neat and tidy downtown area. An avid walker myself, don’t forget to take advantage of the great outdoor hiking trails in nearby Mount Desert Island.
