Couch surfing is a new trend for penny pinchers who still want to explore the world around them without paying a high price.
The Couch Surfing Project is an Internet-based initiative with about 350,000 members worldwide, of whom about 40 percent are willing to open their homes to other travelers. It’s currently the largest hospitality exchange network.
Membership is free and simply requires registration at the website. Travelers then search for people who are willing to host them on their journeys. A personal vouching system exists and guests are highly encouraged to do their research. The aim is to provide guests with a free place to crash while they’re exploring. But if your host offers you meals or other amenities, like use of a vehicle, you’re always welcome to reimburse them or fill up the tank.
If you’re just dying to take a trip but just can’t see handing your hard-earned cash over to some overpriced hotel chain, then you may want to check out the couch surfing website http://www.couchsurfing.com for further details. Or if you’d like to invite a budget-conscious traveler into your home, feel free to explore the site and register.
